UAV manufacturing

Let's consider the topic of UAV production from different sides. For this purpose, we decompose the unmanned aircraft system to better understand what it consists of.

Here are the 4 main ingredients:

  • Unmanned aerial vehicle - airplane, helicopter, multirotor system
  • Communication facilities - antennas and modems for data and video transmission
  • Ground control center - wheeled chassis, shockproof box or remote control
  • Software - on-board autopilot and ground control station software

Few companies today would dare to build such a complex product without using third-party components. This is an extremely costly endeavor, so in most cases, organizations produsing UAVs only determine the shape, size and flight characteristics of the final product, and the components are simply ordered from existing catalogs.

Software

What concerns the software part, the situation is as follow. Developing the proprietary autopilot and GCS - is quite expensive business. To get just a primitive version of such software the company need a team of experienced developers and testers, the cost of which is much higher than the average on the market. If we talk about creating the advanced and rich functionality the process will require between 3 and 10 years which already takes significant costs.

This brings us to the situation in which companies that try to create all this by themselves simply duplicate the work of each other, which significantly increase the cost of the final products. The very same time the organization that integrates ready-to-fly solution reduces costs and the time to market.

LOGOS for drone manufacturers

Though, the documentation make an emphasize on work with MavLink and Ardupilot our GCS was designed to be protocol and autopilot agnostic.

From the very beginning we set the goal to build scalable architecture that allows us to quickly integrate the product with other communication protocols and flight stacks. No matter how specific the UAV is the approaches to control them are very similar: sending commands on board and receiving the telemetry and video back.

We set the goal to create convenient tool that covers the majority of needs of drone manufacturers and their customers. At the same time every drone producer can request the developments of custom options for their UAVs.

We make an emphasis on the quality of the user interface. It solves two problems: the final product becomes more attractive to the customer and less confusing for the operators.

Summary

If you plan to create UAV based on MavLink, Ardupilot or PX4 or you have your proprietary autopilot but you lack of the ground control station we offer you to take a precise look at our product. We have already implemented a set of advanced features that other GCSs do not provide out of the box. Combining them with your drones you get the final product able to solve specific business goals. And the list of such features will be increasing.
